New Jersey Family History & Genealogy Centers

As being one of the original 13 colonies of the United States, New Jersey offers a long & prominent history. For all those wanting to trace the origins of their forefathers in this state, the New Jersey family history centers are an excellent place to begin. With offices all over the state, the majority of New Jersey citizens can find a place not far from their residences. All of these are offshoots of the Family History Library in Utah which provide an abundance of research material, which include print records, microfilm & modern technology sources. New Jersey Genealogy Resources

New Jersey family research workers will begin to learn that colonial censuses between 1726 -1772 & parts of the United States censuses, 1790-1820, were damaged. Nevertheless, to reconstruct census data for your own ancestor, the New Jersey State Archives is a fantastic location to get started. The Archives hosts searchable databases: Colonial Marriage 1665-1799 records, Death Historical Records, 1878-1886, and Propriety Warrants and Land Surveys, 1670-1727. (See Searchable Databases). Preferred county marriage documents from 1795, land/survey data as earlier as in 1650, state & county level naturalization are likewise organized at the NJ State Archives.

A sizeable collection of early daily papers are kept at the Newspaper Archives at the New Jersey Historical Society resource where analysts can audit in the vicinity possessions starting with the 1775 Plain dealer of Bridgeton, Cumberland County.

Rutgers University Special Collections has also a significant collection of family histories stored by the Genealogical Society of New Jersey and the New Jersey State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
